Bled Celebrated International Zero Waste Day
On March 28, Bled hosted an event marking International Zero Waste Day, dedicated to the prevention and management of textile waste. At the center of the event was a clothing swap organized by Ecologists Without Borders in collaboration with local partners, highlighting the issue of fast fashion and its environmental impact. They also presented the European project STICT – Strengthening the Implementation of Circular Textile Strategies in the EU – which aims to help municipalities develop concrete measures to reduce textile waste.
Anton Mežan, Mayor of the Municipality of Bled, emphasized in his address that clothing used to be a valuable asset, whereas today it is often discarded due to shifting fashion standards. Peter Torkar, Mayor of the Municipality of Gorje, noted that he increasingly observes more waste in the field, making zero waste principles—once a natural part of life—even more relevant. Janez Resman, Director of Infrastructure Bled, pointed out that the municipality collects as much as 40 tons of textile waste annually, much of which consists of brand-new clothes, bedding, and towels. Blaž Veber, Director of the public institution Tourism Bled, also emphasized the connection between fast fashion trends and tourism, noting that his institution will actively participate in the project.
Sledi Festival ponovne uporabe in Dan v rabljenih oblačilih
