Historical Archery Tournament at Bled Castle Successfully Completed

With tense and thrilling final rounds, the 2nd International Historical Archery Tournament concluded in the grounds below Bled Castle.

Between 15 and 18 May, Slovenia’s only historical archery event brought together 130 participants from 12 countries, all dressed in historical attire, to compete in shooting at historical and 3D targets. The tournament took place at two stunning locations: at Bled Castle and in Bohinjska Bela.

Organisation and Participants

The tournament, which Bled Culture Institute organizes in collaboration with the Palček Bled Archery Club, combines a love for outdoor activity, history, and socializing with like-minded people. This year the event attracted a larger number of archers from Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Serbia. The competitors with the highest scores were Branko Grahovar, Roman Pleško, Zsolt Kovács, Theodore Priniotakis, Tibor Horváth, and Valter Pajer in the men's category, and Béláné Izsák, Svetlana Brkić, and Ágnes Horváth in the women's category.

Two Venues, Two Styles, One Competition

The tournament was held at two venues – at Bled Castle and at the archery course in Bohinjska Bela. Competitors shot at both historical and 3D targets. Historical targets were placed in the castle setting, while the 3D targets, simulating hunting scenes, were set in the natural terrain near the Sava Bohinjka River in Bohinjska Bela. Visitors were able to watch the competition, admire the archers' historical costumes, study their equipment, and enjoy a historical setting in a natural environment.

Now in its second year, the Historical Archery Tournament at Bled Castle is growing into a popular event that is a perfect mix of archery competitions, socialising, and nature. Archers like to say that this is a sport for all generations, as it encourages people to spend time outdoors and can be practiced and performed successfully even at an older age.

Exhibition of Unique Historical Costumes

On Saturday, 17 May, the Stolp Gallery opened an exhibition of unique historical costumes by Andreja Stržinar, a master artisan specializing in Slovenian clothing heritage. Each piece of clothing tells a story from the past, woven into its very fabric. The exhibition will be on display until 6 June 2025.
