The Institute for Culture Bled and the Municipality of Bled invite you, on the occasion of the municipal holiday, to an Open Day at the Mrak Homestead on Friday, April 10, 2026, between 4:00 PM and 5:30 PM.
A guided tour of the architectural heritage will take place, organized in cooperation with the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia, Kranj Regional Unit, and the Gorenjska Museum.
Joining the event will be Irena Vesel, Head of the Kranj Regional Unit, and Saša Roškar, conservation advisor, both from the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia, as well as Jana Babšek, Director of the Gorenjska Museum, and Dr. Ana Vrtovec Beno, Senior Curator at the Gorenjska Museum.
The Mrak Homestead in Rečica near Bled is a cultural monument of local importance, telling the story of rural life in the Bled area. The residential house is a well-preserved, multi-story farmhouse belonging to a wealthier family, featuring a traditional black kitchen and other characteristic 17th-century spaces. With its preserved furnishings and spatial layout, the homestead offers insight into past ways of living, farming practices, and everyday life in the village of Rečica.
Tours of the house will be conducted in smaller groups, so visitors are kindly asked to allow extra time for their visit.
On this occasion, visitors will also be able to access the Slavko Oblak Gallery, which is currently still being fitted out. Be among the first to explore the sculptural gallery spaces. It is from this very environment that Slavko Oblak emerged—an artist whose work is shaped by lived experience.
Access: Parking is available at the central parking area next to Infrastruktura Bled. The Mrak Homestead in Rečica is just a few minutes’ pleasant walk away. In the past, visitors arrived at the Mrak farm by ox and cart, which is why there is still no parking available on site. The walk rewards you with beautiful views of the Karavanke mountains with Stol, Bled Castle, and the green Višce hills.
